Neighbourhood Watch

Stay safe in Stambourne!

The Neighbourhood Watch WhatsApp Group of Stambourne is a line of communication for villagers to spread news of any burglaries or suspicious sightings that may occur within Stambourne.

To get involved message Vicky Dowling on 07778 410 376 to be added to the group or contact us.

Of particular note is an increased number of telephone / text / email scams related to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Advice is to:

  • Stop: Taking a moment to stop and think before parting with your money or information could keep you safe.
  • Challenge: Could it be fake? It’s ok to reject, refuse or ignore any requests. Only criminals will try to rush or panic you.
  • Protect: Contact your bank immediately if you think you’ve fallen for a scam and report it to Action Fraud.

Suspected scam texts can be reported to your mobile network provider by forwarding them to 7726, and forward any suspicious emails to report@phishing.gov.uk, the National Cyber Security Centre’s (NCSC) suspicious email reporting service.

For those without smartphones please be aware that genuine contract traces for the NHS will NOT request any payment or bank details.

In the first instance call the police and report the incident, followed by a WhatsApp message to the Stambourne Neighbourhood Watch group to notify everyone in the group. In the past this method of communication has been invaluable in spreading the word about robberies, locating lost pets, a horse that bolted, and road closures caused by accidents.

The North Essex Neighbourhood Watch newsletter, which also covers South Suffolk, is published by Clive Stewart so please contact him if you would like to receive updates via email.
