Recipe Pancake Day 2024: Make yourself some yummy pancakes this Pancake Day!
Make yourself some yummy pancakes this Pancake Day!
This year Shrove Tuesday, also known as “Pancake Day” or “Mardi Gras”, falls on 13th February. On this day, it is customary to eat pancakes as a meal. Try our favourite pancake recipe this Pancake Day 2024. Super quick, in 3 easy steps.
Ingredients
• 200g plain flour • 1 tsp baking powder • ½ tsp salt • 2 Tbsp sugar • 1 egg, at room temperature • 2 Tbsp butter, melted • 250ml milk, at room temperature
Optional ingredients
• ½ tsp ground cinnamon • 1 tsp vanilla extract
• Preparation time: 10 mins • Cooking time: 15 mins • Total time: 25 mins • Yields: 8 pancakes • Serves: 2 hungry people
Directions
Step 1
Dry ingredients: in a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and cinnamon if using.
Wet ingredients: in a separate bowl, lightly beat an egg, then combine with the melted butter and the milk, and the vanilla extract if using. Whisk lightly.
Step 2
Make a well in the centre of the dry mix and pour in the wet mixture; mix until smooth, but do not overwork the batter.
SECRET TIP
Let the batter rest while you heat your pan up. This will make your pancakes nice and fluffy.
Step 3
Heat a lightly oiled griddle or frying pan over medium-high heat. If you use a non-stick pan, you will not need to grease it.
Pour or scoop the batter onto the pan, using a couple of tablespoons for each pancake, making sure they don’t spread out to the outside. Wait until the top of the pancakes begins to bubble, then turn them over and cook until both sides are golden brown and fluffy. Serve hot.
Serving suggestions
Top the pancakes with your choice of maple syrup & butter, or honey & fresh blueberries or strawberries, or banana slices & Nutella for truly decadent pancakes. Yum!
Let us know if you will make pancakes for Pancake Day and if you follow our recipe, tell us how they turn out!

The last meeting of the year took place on Thursday, 23rd November 2023 at 7.30pm in the Village Hall. We were pleased to welcome our District Councillor, Richard van Dulken.
Green waste collections
The deadline to sign up for the early bird discount had now passed. Cllr van Dulken advised that 36% of households in the district had signed up.
Wethersfield Air Base
The outcome of the judicial review is awaited. The airbase was expected to be at capacity with 1700 migrants by January 2024.
Pavilion
It will soon be closed up for the winter. There are new statutory regulations on fire safety for public building and this will be dealt with over the winter months.
Highways
Our new VAS sign is in place in Dyers End and does appear to be slowing the traffic down. This is a moveable sign and it will rotate between Dyers End, Church Road and Chapel End Way.
Potholes are a continuing issue and can be reported to Essex County Council Highways on or let me know and I will report them in. Photos are always helpful.
Footpaths
Our footpaths are regularly monitored — if you see any problems when you are out, walking please let the Parish Council know and they can report them to Essex County Council Highways.
Bonfire Night
Sadly the decision was made to cancel Bonfire Night due to the extremely wet weather and flooding that happened in the run up to the event. We look forward to it taking place in in 2024.

I would like to start my input to the newsletter with an update on the harvest items I took to the food bank. Our donation totalled 57.66 kg and supplied 52 meals. So a huge thank you to all who donated.
The Remembrance service on 12th November 2023 was well supported. It was nice to be joined by and share the morning with Adrian and our friends from Stambourne Chapel.
I am trying to arrange for two services a month at Stambourne and although they may not be on the 1st or 2nd Sunday of each month, I am asking for your support at as many as you can attend as we are still in the long process of advertising for a new Vicar. Please check the Church noticeboard for any changes and updates.
On behalf of Stambourne Parochial Church Council I would like to wish you all a Happy Christmas & a peaceful 2024.
First our thanks to all who came to the Christmas Fayre and made it such a success. Together you raised £360 for our chapel building fund and £73 for the Stambourne Chapel Care fund. We are very grateful to all who donated prizes and cakes and who came along to make such a lovely Christmassy atmosphere!
Our Christmas Carol Service is on 17th December at 4pm when we will have a traditional candlelight service. Do come along and enjoy a hot mulled wine and mince pie and lots of carols. We look forward to sharing Christmas with you and on Christmas day will be holding a short birthday celebration as we remember that this is the official birthday of Jesus, our Saviour and King. So be ready for a real celebration!
So we pray that your Christmas will be joyful and peace filled.
And as Tiny Tim said “May God bless them one and all”.
Our New Year’s service is about our plans for 2024 and so come along and find out and contribute. We have many ideas of what we can do, but none are useful without you! Happy Christmas!
