We look forward to seeing you there »

STAMBOURNE PARISH COUNCIL

The latest meeting was held in the Stambourne Village Hall on Wednesday, 6th October. Unfortunately, our District and County Councillors were unable to attend. However, there was one member of the public present. We started the meeting with one minute’s silence in memory of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

Thank you to everyone who signed the Book of Condolence which was available in the Church during the period of mourning. The Moment of Reflection on Sunday, 18th September at the Church was also well supported and thank you also to Rev. Liz Paxton who was able to conduct a blessing.

Highways

If you come across any issues with our footpaths or highways these can be reported to Essex County Council on essex.gov.uk/highways or you can let me know – photographs are always really helpful.

Pavilion

The Pavilion has been well used throughout the summer and there have been many positive comments about the refurbishment and how clean and fresh it looks.

The Pavilion will be closed up for winter after Bonfire Night and re-open in the spring. If you would like to book it please contact me.

ST. PETER & ST. THOMAS BECKET PARISH CHURCH

Harvest Festival

A big thank you to those who attended the Harvest Festival service on Sunday, 2nd October 2022 and in particular to all those who kindly donated tins, packets, etc which have been delivered to Reach Community Projects, Haverhill for their food bank.

The staff were very grateful for our items.

As you may have noticed scaffold is going up on the outside of the Church for repair work and from Monday, 3rd October more scaffold will be going up inside the Church.

The work will take several weeks to complete and it may mean we have to cancel services depending how accessible the pews are! Please check the notice board for service updates, etc.

It will soon be Carol Service time and the Church repairs will be complete by that time.

However, we do need volunteers to help with this year’s service both before and after the service; to prepare the Church by setting out the candles, helping to serve and clear up the refreshments, reading a lesson, decorating the Church, putting out the lanterns to light up the path and making mince pies!

Mince pies

It is one of the events of the year that we do have a big congregation and the whole family do attend and from past experience do have a good time!

If you can get involved in any way contact me (details below) or any member of the Church Council.

One further request — we are still looking for an organist to play on Sundays!

STAMBOURNE CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH

News from the Chapel

Building works

So our good news is we have planning permission — and the next good news? We have to raise the money to build it!

This is perhaps then the opportunity to state that our hope is in the provision we have from God. That doesn’t mean the money flows from heaven, but that we trust that any money raising efforts, and any charitable giving any grants we apply for, will cover the cost of whatever we are going to build.

And that, as Christians, it is how we should live our lives. I know sometimes it doesn’t feel like that, and amid the fuel and cost of living crisis it may seem a little glib to say we will be OK because God will provide — and yes it is.

We are expected to use the wonderful mind that God gave us and to try to make the best of the resources we have and to not expect everything to be handed to us on a plate! So our trust in God comes with responsibilities!

Stambourne Chapel Care (see below) is to here to try and help anyone struggling. We don’t have funds to give out, but we do have people who will help in any way they can if life gets difficult, sometimes by just helping to make the tough decisions needed to stay afloat. Do call us if you need a hand.

Every blessing,

Adrian Burr, Minister
